Brief history of the Moonbeam Firefighting Service

1966
-Chief: Laurier Léonard
-Assistant Chief: Yvon Robert

-Fire Hall: a more or less insulated barn, heated with natural gas

-August 1966: First fire truck- a 1952 Chevrolet
1974-75
-Purchase of a pumper
-September 1975: new fire truck - a Ford 900
1970-80
-Beginning of the mutual aid in the District of Cochrane
-Beginning of training courses of 40, 60 and 140 hours. Half a dozen firefighters took these courses.
1978-79
-Fire Hall: new location and new garage - Official Opening
-Training courses continue and are offered by Ontario's Commissioner
Beginning of the '80s
-First Aid training becomes mandatory for all firefighters
-Bed racing competitions for local firefighters

-Beginning of annual banquets during which at least three fires broke out
End of the '80s
-New fire suits valued at over $22,000
1994
-Purchase of a service vehicle which allowed the fire chief to better evaluate the situation during a fire and for transporting emergency equipment.
1996
-Purchase of a rescue vehicle valued at over $45,000 and of a 3,000 gallon tanker, a "super tanker".
2001
-New fire suits for forest and brush fires
-Purchase of a portable pump and more than 2,000 feet of hose valued at over $14,000
