Freedom of Information
The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 1990 (MFIPPA) has been in effect since January 1st, 1991. This legislation regulates and controls the information that is made available to the public and provides for a formal procedure to request records. The Act not only provides rights to the public to gain access to Municipal records, but also protects the privacy of individuals.
A decision by a municipal government, agency, board or commission to deny access to certain types of information can be appealed to the Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario (IPC/O).
The Act also provides a privacy protection scheme relating to the collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information in the custody and/or control of municipal governments.
Public access to information
The Clerk's office, located at 53 St. Aubin Avenue, is the official point of contact for those wishing to make a formal written request for access to information held by the Town of Moonbeam.
Individuals may make a written request (letter) or complete an Access Request Form, and return it, along with the application fee of $5.00*, to the following address:

Fees for making an access request

There is a mandatory $5.00 application fee which must accompany each request for information.

Search and preparation fee is $7.50 per 15 minutes and $ 0.20 per page for photocopying.
The general time limit for responding to access requests is 30 days. Be sure to describe, in detail, the types of records which you are requesting access to under the Act.
If you choose to write a letter rather than fill out a form, make sure to include:

names of specific files or types of records to which you request access, including specific dates of those records, where possible
